"The Machine is Us/ing Us"

The title of this video is completely accurate. The machine is using us, as well as it is part of life for the majority of mankind. This title is describing tons of people all around the world. Web 2.0 has become such a staple in existence of countless people. For as long as I can remember, there has been some sort of computer in my life. Technology is all around and it is pretty much the only way our world is running. Web 2.0 is affecting everyone entering the workplace in the fact that you have to be almost completely versed in the Internet, and also many other programs. For young adults competing for jobs, this is a very large issue. If you are not the "cream of the technological crop" you can kiss that amazing job goodbye. The Internet and computer
classes have become a major requirement in the path of graduating. Web 2.0 is also having a tremendous effect on veterans in the workforce. These people are not caught up on the "technological times" which proves to be a crippling disadvantage in many job related activities. These older folks did not have the privilege to naturally become part of the "machine."
This video says that we need to rethink everything. One major thing that stuck out to me was rethinking family. Being part of a family has become so much easier due to technological advances. You can send pictures, chat live, and also email constantly to keep in touch with loved ones. Previously these types of family things were limited to meeting face to face, but now Web 2.0 has enabled a better median for communication between families. The video also suggests to rethink love. After really thinking about this and trying to make sense of it, it all came together that love cannot be lived out through facebook notifications, and my space comments. There are many relationships that are hanging in the balance, and one wrong sign on facebook, could cause them to come crumbling down. Overall this video was very eye opening and compelling. It really showed how much or society needs to stand back and make sure that there is always a healthy balance between "face to face" life and the never ending virtual world.
