Writing a Cover Letter

This article was a very helpful read concerning how to properly write a cover letter. This article shows the way to ensure that your cover letter stands out and doesn't just get pushed to the side. It exposes the reality of what hiring managers really do with your cover letter and also how to make an impact. The tutorial that was most helpful to me was the actual example given. By giving an example it shows how a correct cover letter should be written and also what should and should not be included. I had no idea that a cover letter was not just an "introduction of yourself." It was interesting to learn that the way to go about writing a cover letter is to show the company what you can do for them. How you can contribute the the company is what these hiring managers are looking for in a prospective employee. I agreed with this article in the fact that most managers really do not pay attention to the cover letter unless your resume sparks their interest in you. This is an alarming fact, but it is true that you must stand out to be even considered for a job. The article also said not to use the cover letter as a crutch when sending out a resumes. Each cover letter and resume should be specifically addressed and tailored to a certain company manager. The cover letter should not be used for "blanket" marketing of yourself. I also agree with the tutorial when it shows a person as advertising themselves. It encourages to advertise how you will benefit the company, instead of just describing the basics of yourself. Overall this article was helpful and will definitely be used when drafting a cover letter in preparation for mock interviews.
